Organic Kohl Powder

The preparation of black kohl is done at the bend of a traditional district of Marrakesh. In this square, old ladies make and sell natural beauty products. Without hesitation, they deliver the secret of the preparation of black powder with metallic reflections. First, they smoke antimony which they finely grind in a copper pestle. Then, they carefully choose medicinal plants which they partially char in an earthen tagine. Then, they pound them finely and mix them with crushed antimony. They add a small drop of olive oil. Finally, they take a very thin fabric, like a piece of stocking, and they begin to sift the preparation by rubbing it well with two fingers to make the thinnest pass through the fabric…

Usage tips:

The powder is used with Kohl and its Mirwed stick (sold separately). Once the bottle is full, insert the stick inside then twist it two or three times. Gently glide the stick over the lower eyelid, pulling it outward, preferably with the eyes closed, so that the shadow blends and gives the eyes a velvety appearance. It is ideal for the most sensitive eyes. Your gaze is underlined and intensified.

Kohl and controversies…..what you need to know!

Powdered kohl is also very controversial because of the regular presence of lead or chemicals.

Little trick to check if there is lead in your khol: pour your kohl on a sheet then pass a magnet underneath, if the kohl moves and follows the magnet, it contains iron filings. We strongly advise you not to use it.
